Employees safety is paramount and there are many legal obligations relating to the health and safety of employees that employers must adhere to. Here are some of the key considerations.
Employment Rights Act 1996
This act deals with the rights that employees are entitled to when they work, including unfair dismissal, reasonable notice before dismissal, time off rights for parenting, redundancy & more, and covers their right to return.
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
This act states that “it shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare at work of all his employees”. This includes employees physical safety as well as their mental wellbeing.
Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations 1999
This requires employers to conduct risk assessments to identify and control any health & safety risks of its employees.
The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992
Employers must comply with these regulations if staff use equipment with a display screen for a significant part of their working day.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005
